Freaky Dancing - Part 2
A fairly intense mix of bizarre and eclectic tunes designed to make you dance in a frantic, jerking, tribal, and ultimately embarrassing fashion. The idea was to upset the usual flow of a mix and make it rhythmically disjointed but still somehow flow into a cohesive whole.
This mix is for AWOLGina, with thanks for all her support, inspiration and encouragement. Hope you enjoy it, Gina!
50 tracks spread over 3 hours and 20 minutes. This is the second half of the mix.
Part 1 of the mix is here.

Vocal Beauty
After moving house, writing a book, coding a DVD, making furniture and getting over illness, I finally managed to get a mix posted again. Hopefully, things will continue to improve, and I'll get time to get some more up over the next few weeks...
Belladrum Space Mix 03 – Folky/Hippyish
Circular mix made for the 'Space' theme for Belladrum festival 2011. This mix was made to be played on repeat on a CD, rather than just from beginning to end.
It was used in the Around group's stall to provide both atmosphere and entertainment. (The Around group are an eclectic fusion of artists, of which I am a part. There are around 20 or so people in the group, ranging from painters and sculptors to wood carvers and musicians. See http://www.around.org.uk/ for more information.)
Drunk on Music
Another drinking compilation!
This one takes the form of the journey of a night of drinking: from initial high expectations through self doubt, over-confidence, and ultimately becoming incomprehensible... but still having a good time.
It is an EU regulation that one out of every three drinking-themed mixes or compilations must include either The Pogues or Shane MacGowan.
(NB: Troll Bends Fir (Troll Gnet El) are generally categorised as 'Russian Beer Folk' - a genre I hope to investigate more one day).
Indian Adventures #1
This is a kind of trip to India, but it takes in a bit of Zanzibar, and the artists range from India, UK, Germany and the USA - and possibly elsewhere as well. There's a lot of Asha Bhosle, because she's totally awesome.
The intent was to explore a variety of Indian styles and styles inspired by India, without making things too disjointed. There will be more adventures, taking in Raga Rock, 60s songs with sitars and tablas, and so on.
Ghost Rider
This mix was made for a friend, and is centered around the Young Gods' cover of 'Ghost Rider'.
The idea was to evoke a particular part of the atmosphere of the song, and explore it as fully as possible.
It's intended to be a kind of gritty road trip through the dirty back roads of America - similar to Natural Born Killers if it was directed by Jim Jarmusch. Or Wim Wenders. Or something.
You can make up your own story to fit the lyrics and music, but I see it as a teenager running away from home ("America, America is killing it's youth"), who, after visiting some dark places (of the soul and the landscape), finally finds his home at the carnival.
I've only got an old vinyl rip of Swans' Love Will Tear Us Apart - sorry for the crackles. There's a similar version by Honeyroot at the end of the excellent UK film 'Red Road'.
