Keeping It Real

Mixes and sets

A circular mix (it can be played in a loop) of some hip-hop and rap favourites.

Naturally it contains lots of bad language and unpleasant behaviour.

The aim was to keep this danceable and fun, but not just fill it with chart hits.

Funky Funky Christmas

Mixes and sets

The artwork was rushed to get this project finished; I wanted to do four separate Christmas mixes before the end of Christmas Eve. I don't personally like Christmas music, and I don't celebrate Christmas, so it was a bit more of a challenge than usual. (I'm not against it, I just don't take part in it). I wanted to see what I could come up with as an alternative to all the usual stuff you hear, without making a load of 'anti-Christmas' mixes, which I figured no-one would want to hear.

This is a circular mix - if you listen to it on a loop, the end should bring you back to the beginning fairly smoothly.

The Run DMC track is in the only 'Christmas' film I enjoy watching - Die Hard.

Belladrum Space Mix 01 - Rap/Funk/Jazz/Krautrock

Mixes and sets

Circular mix made for the 'Space' theme for Belladrum festival 2011. This mix was made to be played on repeat on a CD, rather than just from beginning to end.

It was used in the Around group's stall to provide both atmosphere and entertainment. (The Around group are an eclectic fusion of artists, of which I am a part. There are around 20 or so people in the group, ranging from painters and sculptors to wood carvers and musicians. See http://www.around.org.uk/ for more information.)

Daddy Go Down to the Ghetto and Spread Your Love

Mixes and sets

Random, on-the-spot mix for a kind of groovy, funky, fun night. A couple of bits of swearing, so not safe for work or children (unless you skip Black Grape and Ghostface Killah).

I would like to think that this is the first time that Kenny Rogers, Ghostface Killah and Ghetto Plotz have all been featured together in a mix, but maybe someone can prove me wrong...

Talib Kweli & Year Of The Blacksmith - The Community Mixtape

Blog

Totally blown away by this awesome mixtape from Talib Kweli. Great flow; smooth yet energetic, solid rhymes and beats - it has it all!
