Freaky Dancing - Part 2

Mixes and sets

A fairly intense mix of bizarre and eclectic tunes designed to make you dance in a frantic, jerking, tribal, and ultimately embarrassing fashion. The idea was to upset the usual flow of a mix and make it rhythmically disjointed but still somehow flow into a cohesive whole.

This mix is for AWOLGina, with thanks for all her support, inspiration and encouragement. Hope you enjoy it, Gina!

50 tracks spread over 3 hours and 20 minutes. This is the second half of the mix.

Part 1 of the mix is here.

Funky Funky Christmas

Mixes and sets

The artwork was rushed to get this project finished; I wanted to do four separate Christmas mixes before the end of Christmas Eve. I don't personally like Christmas music, and I don't celebrate Christmas, so it was a bit more of a challenge than usual. (I'm not against it, I just don't take part in it). I wanted to see what I could come up with as an alternative to all the usual stuff you hear, without making a load of 'anti-Christmas' mixes, which I figured no-one would want to hear.

This is a circular mix - if you listen to it on a loop, the end should bring you back to the beginning fairly smoothly.

The Run DMC track is in the only 'Christmas' film I enjoy watching - Die Hard.

Belladrum Space Mix 04 – Hippyish/Semi-Random

Mixes and sets

Circular mix made for the 'Space' theme for Belladrum festival 2011. This mix was made to be played on repeat on a CD, rather than just from beginning to end.

It was used in the Around group's stall to provide both atmosphere and entertainment. (The Around group are an eclectic fusion of artists, of which I am a part. There are around 20 or so people in the group, ranging from painters and sculptors to wood carvers and musicians. See http://www.around.org.uk/ for more information.)

Daddy Go Down to the Ghetto and Spread Your Love

Mixes and sets

Random, on-the-spot mix for a kind of groovy, funky, fun night. A couple of bits of swearing, so not safe for work or children (unless you skip Black Grape and Ghostface Killah).

I would like to think that this is the first time that Kenny Rogers, Ghostface Killah and Ghetto Plotz have all been featured together in a mix, but maybe someone can prove me wrong...

Indian Adventures #1

Mixes and sets

This is a kind of trip to India, but it takes in a bit of Zanzibar, and the artists range from India, UK, Germany and the USA - and possibly elsewhere as well. There's a lot of Asha Bhosle, because she's totally awesome.

The intent was to explore a variety of Indian styles and styles inspired by India, without making things too disjointed. There will be more adventures, taking in Raga Rock, 60s songs with sitars and tablas, and so on.

Down To Business - Valentine Mix (Part 2)

Mixes and sets

This Valentine's mix is probably best enjoyed if you DO NOT READ THE TRACKLIST (until after you've heard it).

To really get into the spirit of this, you may want to get comfortable with your lover, turn down the lights, and let the music take you for a ride... but you can still enjoy it without a lover.

Make sure you listened to Part 1 before listening to this.

Probably best not to listen to the mix near children or those who are easily offended.

Groove Is In The Ghetto

My remixes

This is a remix of Deee-lite's 'Groove Is In The Heart'. I wanted to try something a bit different from the usual dance-based remixes of this awesome pop classic, and give it a very different rhythm.

It is somewhere between a mashup and a remix, featuring 18 different samples, and no other original music (i.e. I didn't add anything of my own, only other people's work). Enjoy!

Phasers Set on Funk Funk

Mixes and sets

This is the first hour of a live improvised funk mix, with only 3 pre-prepared tracks; everything else was searched for and added on the fly.

I had no idea which direction I was going to take until I started playing the first track. (Which is why there are a couple of mistakes!)

Most of the mixes I post here and on Mixcloud are entirely live, unless otherwise stated. The only editing I do is to fit them into Mixcloud's 100MB size limit (which is why the mixes come in two parts).
